COVER STORY

OF MICE & MEN:
The career of post-hardcore metal band Of Mice & Men is a storied one. In existence for just two years, the California five piece has already endured more trials, tribulations, and turmoil than most acts could handle over the course of a decade. Appropriately titled The Flood, Of Mice & Men opened up emotional floodgates on this album, pouring out every positive and negative emotion theyíve collectively experienced.
With what promises to be the busiest summer of his life thus far, due to the release of The Flood and a high-profile spot on this yearís Warped Tour, Austin Carlile takes the time from the bandís first headlining tour to share his story of recovery from major open-heart surgery. In a conversation that ranges from philosophical to funny, we learn that sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men eventually work out just the way they were intended.

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS
BLACK VEIL BRIDES:
Sounding as dangerous and rebellious as they look, Black Veil Brides has exploded out of the underground. Rock Ďní roll is about making your own rules and enjoying the hedonistic things in life, and the Los Angeles, California quintet cloaked head to toe in black leather, matching eyeliner, and inky dark coifs is resurrecting that way of thinking on their major label debut, Set the World on Fire. Frontman Andy Six checks in from the road. Heís excited about Set the World on Fire, and heís happy to talk about Black Veil Bridesí legion of fans and those pesky detractors.

AUGUST BURNS RED doesnít shy away from being called Christian metalcore, but that doesnít mean the Lancaster, Pennsylvania band will take those distinctions and rest on them. Guitarist and primary songwriter JB Brubaker insists that while they do have the makings of a metalcore act, they have no interest in painting by the numbers. He believes their new record, Leveler, will prove that to people, and heís excited for fans to have the album in their hands. Brubaker also discusses how he feels about the bandís identity, as well as August Burns Redís summer Warped Tour stint.

BORN OF OSIRIS: While many bands tend to push their abilities so much to the fore they end up disappearing up their own assholes, the Chicago sextet has always had a keen ear for pulling out the potential of every song as its own entity. Now back with The Discovery, 15 tracks of advanced, brutal progressive metal, they are more determined than ever to make a real mark on the metal scene. Guitarist Lee McKinney talks about the energy invested on The Discovery and why this is the album primed to take Born of Osiris to the next level.
