COVER STORY

BLESSTHEFALL
lead vocalist Beau Bokan and guitarist Eric Lambert are serious about making a statement with the band’s new record, Awakening, and that message is they are here to stay. Not that anyone expected the Phoenix, Arizona quintet to fade from the scene, but Bokan, Lambert, new guitarist Elliott Gruenberg, bassist/screamer Jared Warth, and drummer Matt Traynor made sure the material for the band’s third full-length and second for Fearless Records was a step up from their 2009 breakthrough Witness. Bokan and Lambert discuss the album title’s inspiration, their ambition as artists, what the heck the Bones Crew is, and whether they have more movie spoof videos planned.

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS
WE CAME AS ROMANS:
Modern metalcore heroes We Came as Romans have spent many a long night far away from the comforts of their Michigan homes. Much like any band that ascends the proverbial ladder to the top, success comes at many a sacrifice. Some revel in the lifestyle, others succumb to the dangers that surround it, but the true spirit of a musician dictates that one write about it. This is exactly what guitarist Joshua Moore did for Understanding What We’ve Grown to Be.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH: After taking their live show several times around the globe, the band now returns with American Capitalist, their biggest and boldest statement to date. We caught up with guitarist—and owner of arguably the most full-on metal name around—Zoltan Bathory to look behind the curtain of the record and to find out why the much decried form of American capitalism is something to be embraced.

ANTHRAX: A cornerstone of American thrash metal, New York City’s noise brigade Anthrax has been through a lot over the years. Enter Worship Music, a resounding return to metal thrashing form for these moshing madmen, and an album that signals the return to the fold of classic era frontman Joey Belladonna. We spoke to Anthrax drummer and songwriter Charlie Benante just before the band’s epic Big 4 concert at Yankee Stadium.

THREAT SIGNAL: Music sharing and technology is helping bands catch their big break, none more so than Hamilton, Ontario’s Threat Signal. When vocalist Jon Howard was finishing high school, he put the band’s music online, and lo and behold, a record label picked up the act, put them on the road, and changed their lives.

MADINA LAKE: With World War III, Madina Lake has delivered the defining record of their career. It is the sound of a band giving it all and bouncing back from horrific circumstances. On June 30, 2010, bassist Matthew Leone was savagely beaten, sustaining life threatening injuries. For vocalist Nathan Leone, Matthew’s twin, these were difficult times, but with a phenomenal outpouring of love from fans, Leone survived and returned to the fold. Nathan Leone shares his insight into these trying times and why Madina Lake is now more vital than ever before.
