COVER STORY

EVERY TIME I DIE:
Not many bands last upwards of 13 years and six albums in today’s cutthroat music industry, but Every Time I Die has endured by refusing to change to fit any of the fads that have come and gone. Every album they have put out has shown a new dimension to the band while never straying from their core sound, though longtime fans will undoubtedly be thrilled by the punk squall of their latest release, Ex Lives, which recalls Every Time I Die’s earlier and most dangerous records. We caught up with brothers Keith and Jordan Buckley—vocalist and guitarist, respectively—to find out more about Ex Lives.

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS
MESHUGGAH:
Expect the unexpected when it comes to Meshuggah. The Swedish innovators have returned with the new album Koloss, wielding a brutally aggressive and a much more direct compositional approach. Make no mistake, however, Koloss is still Meshuggah in its technical bent and twisted ways, but most fans will be surprised at the degree of groove and metallic immediacy involved this time around. Drummer Tomas Haake tells us more.

EMMURE has cranked out some of wildest, breakdown driven, and in-your-face music ever associated with the metalcore genre. An enraged, dissonant, and rhythmic powerhouse, Slave to the Game delivers exactly what Emmure fans have grown to expect. The often outspoken yet noticeably content Palmeri discusses the method behind Emmure’s newly spawned madness.

ATTACK ATTACK!: Persevering and rising to the top, it hasn’t been an easy road for Attack Attack! Their latest album, This Means War, tackles such hardships and inner turmoils through its angry lyrics, intense breakdowns, and chaotic songwriting style. Determined to make this their best year yet, Attack Attack! has gotten off to a great start, according to drummer Andrew Wetzel.

CANNIBAL CORPSE: In heavy music’s most extreme subgenre, Cannibal Corpse is the most successful and the most vilified. Their previous two albums, Kill and Evisceration Plague, revitalized the death metal band, and their newest slice, Torture, raises the bar yet again. Luminary bassist Alex Webster discusses what might be the best Cannibal Corpse record yet.

MYCHILDREN MYBRIDE: On MyChildren MyBride’s ominous third album, this noted Christian metal band has turned towards the dark side. Their new self-titled release may be the five piece’s most morbid and unforgiving to date, but their hearts still remain steadfast in their faith. Singer/lyricist Matthew Hasting talks about the new album.

VEIL OF MAYA: Branching outside of the boundaries of any given metal subgenre, Veil of Maya has teamed up with producer Misha Mansoor of Periphery for the band’s latest release, Eclipse. From a van twisting through the Rocky Mountains, throat shredder Brandon Butler offers the lowdown on Eclipse, Veil of Maya’s fourth album.
