COVER STORY

OF MICE & MEN: There are few bands that have lived as tumultuous an existence as Of Mice & Men. Enduring more lineup changes in five years than most bands with a couple of decades under their collective belt, it would be easy to grow disenchanted and accept defeat, but that’s not their style at all. Returning with Restoring Force, the band is making certain that no one has the opportunity to count them out. We caught up with vocalist Austin Carlile to gain an insight into where they’re coming from, why this record is so important, and the responsibility Of Mice & Men feels toward remaining true to themselves and those who love them.

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS
I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN:
It’s been three years since the return of Australian metalcore giants I Killed the Prom Queen. Following a battery of lineup changes and a few stylistic tweaks, the band has finally completed their third album, Beloved. Founding guitarist and clean singer Jona Weinhofen discusses Beloved, as well as the band’s past, present, politics, and future.

COMEBACK KID: For more than a decade, Comeback Kid has been one of the most visceral, exciting, and engaging bands in hardcore. With their fifth full-length, Die Knowing, they are coming back with their hardest sounding record yet. Frontman Andrew Neufeld brings us up to date on the events of their world over the last few years and what it is that continues to drive them.

THE PRETTY RECKLESS: Taylor Momsen has something to prove. The actress and singer goes for broke on Going to Hell, the sophomore effort from her band of rock ‘n’ roll heathens, The Pretty Reckless, signaling a jump straight into rock goddess territory for the Gossip Girl actress and former Cindy Lou Who. We contacted Momsen to find out exactly why The Pretty Reckless is Going to Hell.

CARNIFEX: The San Diego quintet faced the possibility of things coming to a very real end. But having recuperated, found a new home with Nuclear Blast, and recently delivered Die Without Hope, it is clear that they are not about to disappear. We caught up with vocalist Scott Lewis to find out what was going on behind the scenes and why the band is stronger than ever.

ANIMALS AS LEADERS returns with its third studio campaign—a daring clutch of punishing metal salvos and richly nuanced atmospherics that see the trio once again charting new sonic territory. On their tertiary outing, the all-instrumental outfit has pulled out all the stops for their most ambitious effort yet. We caught up with guitarist Tosin Abasi as he prepared to hit the road.

FOR TODAY: Aggressively Christian and aggressively metalcore, For Today has always been hyperbolic and divisive. That energy gives their latest album, Fight the Silence, more nuance and depth than the typical worship team releases. Ryan Leitru, founding guitarist and backup vocalist, discusses the revamped, refocused For Today.

MARTY FRIEDMAN may have been in Japan the last 10 years, but given the number of musicians that had to be considered for guest spots on his new album Inferno, it is obvious that location did nothing to keep the ex-Megadeth guitarist from the minds of the masses. Friedman spoke to us about the new album from his hotel in New York.

MEMPHIS MAY FIRE: It’s hard to think of a band that better personifies so many of metalcore's hallmarks. And their fourth full-length, Unconditional, promises a refined, streamlined version of Memphis May Fire. Vocalist Matty Mullins talks about the new album, lyrical inspiration, and trials and tribulations.
