COVER STORY

SUICIDE SILENCE: With the band’s self-titled fifth album, Suicide Silence is changing the rules of the game. Having reigned as kings of deathcore early in their career, 2014’s You Can’t Stop Me proved that the tragic loss of vocalist Mitch Lucker was not going to derail them. All Shall Perish’s Eddie Hermida stepped into Lucker’s sizeable shoes, and that album and the touring that followed was a time to reflect, bond, and grow. The result is a record that is guaranteed to provoke a reaction. We caught up with Hermida and guitarist Mark Heylmun to glean an insight into all that went into what is sure to be one of 2017’s landmark releases.

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS
MEMPHIS MAY FIRE:
Memphis May Fire’s fourth record, This Light I Hold, ushers in a new era for the well established and beloved act. A nearly flawless and diverse record, it will go down in Memphis May Fire history as a pivotal turning point, the effort that launched them into the upper echelons of rock music. Matty Mullins is all about stories—his and what his band’s music can inspire in our own.

X JAPAN may be the most famous band you’ve heard of but never actually heard. Hot on the heels of Yoshiki’s classical show at Carnegie Hall, X Japan is releasing its sixth album in March a day before a Wembley Arena show. Founding bandleader Yoshiki discusses all things X Japan and, via translator, founding vocalist Toshi and guitarist/violinist Sugizo add their own perspectives.

IRON REAGAN: As the modern king of crossover bands, it seems only right that Iron Reagan now returns with Crossover Ministry, the titanic follow-up to 2014’s Tyranny of Will. Vocalist Tony Foresta speaks about Crossover Ministry and updates us on all things Iron Reagan.

FIREWIND is back with Immortals, its first concept album, and musically a true return to form that embraces the energy, craftsmanship, and full metal excitement of its earlier releases, which should have the faithful returning in droves.

ANNISOKAY: Returning with Devil May Care, Germany’s Annisokay is primed to take on the ills of the world. We caught up with guitarist Christoph Wieczorek to find out what brought them to the point they’re now at.

ONCE HUMAN: On its second album, Evolution, Once Human returns with a dramatically different and far more compelling sound that sees the band truly come into its own. We caught up with vocalist Lauren Hart and guitarist/producer Logan Mader to get the inside story.

XANDRIA has once again upped the ante, and A Theater of Dimensions offers, quite paradoxically, some of the heaviest and most emotive songs of the band’s career. Returning vocalist Dianne van Giersbergen discusses her voice and A Theater of Dimensions.
