COVER STORY LAMB OF GOD: PURVEYORS OF DARK APOCALYPTIC THRASH, Lamb of God didn’t just lean back on the porch, graze on booze and nuts, and watch their career take off. Hell, they even had to go to a different town to build a following. Now, all their hard work has paid off tenfold. But as you may or may not have heard, their fires are blazing like never before on their latest slab of metal, Ashes of the Wake. Although his sandpaper-down-the-throat roars might make you think twice about meeting him, Randy Blythe is actually quite the kindhearted, talkative chuckler off stage.
IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS HOPESFALL: It can be perilous to balance roots with evolution, to cast a net toward new fans without alienating the old ones. As frontman Jay Forrest explains, hardcore bands don’t always have to make hardcore albums. Checking in from their tour van, fresh from a drive straight across the country, Forrest and his bandmates are in a jovial, somewhat mischievous mood.
BLOOD BROTHERS: It appears that the soundtrack for high school angst may not be set by Ashlee Simpson, Linkin Park, or Sum 41, but by five wiry guys from Seattle, Washington, better known as Blood Brothers. Vocalist Johnny Whitney acknowledges that the bulk of the band’s fan base is quite young.
TSUNAMI BOMB: There is a growing buzz that Tsunami Bomb may be on the cusp of hitting the big time. Agent M reflects on her earlier years and looks ahead to the future, talking candidly about the various challenges that the road lifestyle presents.
STRUNG OUT throw themselves into their latest disc, Exile in Oblivion, with a passionate fervor searing hot enough to melt the hearts of even the most aloof hipster scene queens. An amalgam of blistering metal riffs, soaring melodies, and punk rock conviction, they succeed where so many other bands fail.
THE BLACK MARIA: Named after the notorious police patrol wagon of the early 20th century, The Black Maria is bursting with fervor and rage. While on set for the video for their first single, Kyle Bishop takes a break from filming to discuss the formation of The Black Maria and the making of their new album.
ARCH ENEMY: With the inspired Dead Eyes See No Future EP of cover tunes and live tracks out now and a brand new studio album looming just over the horizon, vocal shredder extraordinaire Angela Gossow catches us up on all things Arch Enemy.
BURY YOUR DEAD is not a typical New England metalcore band. Letting it all hang out, Slim gives a sneak peak into the song title selection process for Cover Your Tracks as well as the secrets of his own talented past and the creative endeavors of his band members.
SUICIDE NOTE: Scattered across the country, the members of Suicide Note had to get in the same city and on the same page fast for Too Sick to Dance. Drummer Jason Gagovski talks about the band’s raw sound, his first drum kit, and the running of his own label Hawthorne Street Records.
3 INCHES OF BLOOD: Despite the stigma tacked to the back of pure heavy metal, 3 Inches of Blood trundles along, desperately trying to wrench itself off the sputtering heavy metal convoy to hell. And, some would say, reality. But not vocalists Cam Pipes or Jamie Hooper. They insist their band is for real, and for all the right reasons.
DIECAST: Armed with a new singer and a new album, Diecast aims for the heavens on the unrelenting metalcore of Tearing Down Your Blue Skies. Founding member Jeremy Wooden opens up about Diecast’s past, future, and new album.
