COVER STORY
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE: THE KINGS HAVE RETURNED. The shroud of mystery surrounding where the band might go next is now about to be lifted, as Killswitch Engage offers up a towering new album, As Daylight Dies. Maintaining the band’s distinctive sound while simultaneously broadening and expanding it into places few if any could have suspected they’d go, vocalist Howard Jones and bassist Mike D’Antonio insist changing things up has been a part of their ethos from day one.

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS
MASTODON: The sleeping giant is now awake, as Mastodon has joined the elite group of metal bands currently signed to a major label. Blood Mountain expands upon Mastodon’s patented amalgamation of guitar based, earth moving heaviness, psychedelic excursions, and imaginative lyrical concepts. Bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders checks in from the UK in the aftermath of a triumphant Mastodon set at the legendary Leeds Festival.

A STATIC LULLABY: Although the road to A Static Lullaby's new, self-titled, and much more metallic album is littered with casualties, singer and founding member Joe Brown is confident in his vision for the band he considers his baby. Brown spills his guts about how he and A Static Lullaby got to where they are right now.

TRIVIUM is on the verge of monstrous success. Expectations are sky-high for their new album, The Crusade, as this third full-length release promises to catapult them to the top of the metal heap. We spoke with Travis Smith right after Trivium wrapped up their travels on the Sounds of the Underground tour.

THE BLACK MARIA: Fueled by heavy rock with plenty of pop twists, The Black Maria steps things up with their latest album, A Shared History of Tragedy. Frontman Chris Gray spoke to us about the meaning behind the album, the band’s improved lineup, and his dedication to mixed martial arts training.

FEAR BEFORE THE MARCH OF FLAMES: For a band that has been steadily gaining steam since its inception, The Always Open Mouth represents ascension to the next level, the realization that a little band from Aurora, Colorado could go all the way. “Hold on,” singer David Marion says from his cell phone. “Let me shotgun this beer.”

IT DIES TODAY: On Sirens, It Dies Today keeps their longtime fans fully satisfied while attracting scores of new metalheads with some of the catchiest melodies and most balls out breakdowns ever put to disc. So, what motivates It Dies Today to create the music that they make? The only way to find out was to sit down with vocalist Nick Brooks.

I AM GHOST: The kids came across an honest band,” says Steven Juliano, I Am Ghost’s founder and frontman, of his band’s sudden popularity. After returning from a stint on this year’s Warped Tour, the talkative Juliano sat down with us to go over the band’s recent debut full-length Lovers’ Requiem and all things I Am Ghost.

DIECAST: “My goal was to take every raw emotion, whether it was anger, sadness, happiness, or rage, and squeeze the lifeblood out of it onto paper in the form of notes to eventually become songs,” says frontman Paul Stoddard. Internal Revolution, bears this out as it thunders between melodic metal and thrashing breakdowns.

CRADLE OF FILTH: No other band has captured the elegance of decadence like Cradle of Filth. Dani Filth and his cohorts are back with the devastating Thornography. The surprisingly down-to-earth man in question takes a break from his tireless schedule to fill us in on Cradle of Filth’s battle plan.
